Pilates recovery program after mastectomy
International Pilates University Fitness4you together with the oncology clinic "Innovation" made an unprecedented social event to commemorate the International Day Against Breast Cancer.
A unique program for prevention and rehabilitation of patients after mastectomy by Kathy Corey was presented in Ukraine for the first time.
Corey’s program was developed in collaboration with leading surgeons and is recognized in the United States, South America and other countries around the world. For many years it has been used successfully in the rehabilitation and treatment of patients.
During the presentation Corey lectured on the topic and gave a master class for the physicians, physiotherapists and representatives of the NGO "Amazon"- women who had been through surgery - and Pilates instructors.
Corey demonstrated a unique archival video which showed the work of Joseph Pilates with Eve Gentry who was a dancer, a student, and in consequence one of the elders teaching Pilates. The video shows Gentry after the operation. She does exercises that were specifically designed for her by Pilates and under his supervision. In those days, the scientific board did not believe in the authenticity of the video, so Joe and Eve decided to shoot her topless. In Kiev this unique video has left no one indifferent.
Professionals praised the work of Corey and at the end of the event in Ukraine bombarded her with questions and comments. She said that "punching the walls of bureaucracy" to acquaint the public with the legacy of Joseph Pilates was a personal matter for her. "For me it is very personal. Eve Gentry was my teacher. And now I feel a responsibility to share my knowledge and experience with future generations of Pilates teachers. And the exercises are so easy and safe and they can help a huge number of women in distress rather effectively," Corey said.
International Pilates University Fitness4you and Kathy Corey want to give personal thanks to oncology clinic "Innovation", the president of the NGO "Amazon" Larissa Lopata, Helen Davis, Catherine Gamazina and all those who were present for facilitating the activities and being non-indifferent to the issue.
